Alison Sawatzky works in a variety of media, including painting, printmaking, and mixed media,
so what is on the walls of her studio is constantly changing. Currently, her focus is on creating a
series of ‘stylized landscape’ painting using acrylics. Bright colours, strong lines, and simplified shapes are the hallmarks of Alison’s works.

Her goal is to capture the joy and excitement she feels when she is out in nature, and to help the viewer look on traditional landscape subjects in a fresh way. The paintings in the ‘stylized landscape’ series are based on the landscapes of the Canadian Shield, Canada’s coastal regions, and Canada’s mountain ranges, especially the Laurentians and the Rockies.

Alison’s creative philosophy is best expressed by the quote:

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Edgar Degas
