Celebrating colour and uplifting the soul

Gloria Pavey is a Hispanic Canadian artist living in small town Eastern Ontario with her husband and two boys. She has fond memories of life as a young girl growing up in the Canadian big city of Toronto, and has also grown to love small town life.

Gloria has been painting since 2016. Drawing from her art and graphic design classes in high school, she began experimenting with acrylic paint and figure sketching. Her unique style has developed over the years. She now works mostly in the abstract and semi-abstract, creating dynamic pieces that celebrate colour and uplift the soul.

“The creative process is a moving experience. It’s also a process of faith. When I set out to create a painting, I never know what the end product will be.  Starting out with a blank canvas, it takes courage to try something – anything. A good abstract piece never looks good after only the first layer. The process of getting a piece to the point where I feel proud to put it on display is truly where I’ve discovered the meaning of “work of art.” It’s about having the patience to keep working the painting, letting it dry between layers, trusting those inner nudges even when they don’t make sense, knowing there’s a finished piece just waiting to show itself to the world. I’m always surprised by what comes from that dance between my intuition and aesthetic eye.”
