Jackie incorporates traditional hand weaving techniques to create modern fibre art for her small business Maple Weaves. She creates compositions that have a vibrancy and playfulness to them. She creates as she weaves so her designs are free flowing, spontaneous and unique.
The use of materials in her work is intentional. Jackie selects wool and other natural fibres for their structure, feel and appearance. She starts with the selection of the handspun art yarn that will influence the colour palette and feel of the finished piece. Additional materials are chosen to add contrast and texture. She likes to introduce material and colour combinations that are unexpected yet pleasing to the eye.
