Jan Atkinson was born in Toronto and as a young adult moved to Cobourg Ontario. She still lives in Cobourg with her spouse but spends her summers in the Rideau Lakes area. She loves being in the little towns of Perth and Westport with their living art communities. Jan has been involved in creating art for many years, even while working for various service industries. She co-owned a fitness centre in Cobourg.

Jan has travelled the world from Europe to Central America but much of her inspiration comes from the villages of Québec and the Maritimes.

“ I was intrigued by how homes were built on the edge of hills and did not tumble down the hillside in bad weather.” – Jan Atkinson

Jan has been influenced by many artists and her artistic style has evolved over the years. She painted in oils but found that she was too impatient to wait for the paints to dry. She got many hours of pleasure painting floor clothes and making floral arrangements. Loving the work of a Québec artist who painted in vibrant colors, Jan was inspired to create her current ‘whimsical’ art. These acrylic whimsical landscape paintings resonate strongly with Jan. Working with vibrant bold colors is both uplifting and fun and her goal is to bring the same feelings to others.
Jan’s art has been in galleries and shows from Toronto to Ottawa and she is very grateful and excited to be participating in live shows again.
