Naomi Renouf
A textile artist and painter
Naomi Renouf is a textile artist and painter. Although based in Jersey, Channel Islands, Naomi now spends part of the year in Canada; dividing her time between Perth and Vancouver Island where her sons and their families live. She studied painting as part of a teaching degree, but over the last 30 years, Naomi has mainly concentrated on textiles. With more and more time spent in Canada, she has returned to acrylic painting and is continuing this alongside her textiles work.
For many years, Naomi has been active in the Arts community of her native island; teaching and exhibiting her work regularly both locally and further afield.
When working in textiles, Naomi uses machine embroidery and various other techniques to produce layered textile pictures. Her approach to working with fabrics and stitch owes much to her painting background and love of the natural environment, which has always been Naomi’s inspiration.
The coastline in particular has been the focus of her work, but it is the lakes, rivers and trees that provide the subject matter for most of her Canadian pieces. Reflections and a focus on the ever changing effects of light and colour play an integral part in her landscapes both in her textiles and acrylic work. Whilst most of Naomi’s work is representational, she also enjoys creating abstract work from time to time, and her strong sense of colour and love of texture, can be seen in all of her work.
