Bringing textural and material effects to colour harmonies

Yurién López Reyes is a multimedia artist from Trinidad, Cuba who paints under the professional name “zegansahiel”.  Working primarily in acrylic and gel pen canvases, her art often incorporates embroidery, hand stitch, fabric and beads, as well as other 3D elements and text to bring intriguing textural and material effects to the colour harmonies of her pieces.

Yurién is a self-taught artist. After a career working in the arts in Cuba as a trainer in Trinidad’s Office of Cultural Conservation and in sales and management at several of the city’s main art galleries, Yurién’s studies of Judaism and Kabbalah informed her to explore her own art as an expression of her faith. Since that time, her works have been displayed in various municipal group exhibitions in Cuba, as well as in Ottawa through the ArtEast group, and can be found in private collections in Cuba and the U.S., including the Cuban Art Space collection at New York’s Centre for Cuban Studies.

Yurién moved to Canada in 2024 as a Permanent Resident and is thrilled to be continuing her art career here in a world of fresh environmental and social inspiration and influence.
